Developing a good sense of harmony is important for the young music student. This book uses songs familiar to generations of people the world over for this purpose. The arrangements are set in a way that the student first plays his/her part as specified, and must be able to play it well. This alone will train the student to "hear" the implied harmony created by the interval relationship between the right and left hand notes. Next, the teacher will then play the accompaniment bass part together with the student playing his/her part. With the bass notes accompanying, the tonal center of each chord is established, thus, making the harmony (chords) more defined.
