The present 48 Exercises for oboe, opus 31, represent Ferling's most important studies. The first edition was published by Chr. Bachmann in Hannover around 1840 and had the plate number 959. In the compilation of the present edition the musical text has been revised and brought into line with present-day practice as regards unambiguous phrase markings and accidentals. All breath markings and recommended fingering derive from the present editor. (Gunther Joppig)
